Sheriff Joe Arpaio to lose 287(g) status

You heard it here first...

It appears that Sheriff Joe Arpaio has finally got under the skin of the Obama Administration so badly that they have decided to "make up any reason possible" to take his 287(g) status (his ability to legally detain and perform immigration functions) from him. On Friday, Dept of Homeland Security officials held a meeting with ICE to inform them that it is time to stop the Sheriff. They were told to "make up a reason" to remove his 287(g) status to stop him from his very effective anti-illegal immigration efforts. Since ICE falls under DHS authority they have no choice but to follow through with the orders.

It's a sad day in America when politicians have to stop an honorable and excellent Sheriff like Joe Arpaio. I can tell you that the good people at ICE aren't huge fans of the idea. After all, Sheriff Joe has helped them in ways very few other law enforcement officer in the country have. I hope that the Sheriff can find a way to beat this and regain his IIRAIRA functions.

Agents on horseback arrest 80 near Arizona border

TUCSON, Ariz. - Border Patrol agents in southern Arizona have made their single-largest arrest of the year.

On Friday, agents who were patrolling on horseback east of Douglas saw a large number of footprints and began tracking them.
After following the foot sign for several hours, agents arrested a group of 80 from Mexico outside of a ranch about 30 miles east of Douglas.
At least three agents took the group into custody. All were transported by buses to the Border Patrol station in Douglas.
Fingerprint checks showed 21 men had criminal records, including one convicted of vehicular manslaughter in California.

Only here to work huh? To do the jobs Americans won't? Yeah... that sounds about right.

Twilight star goes above and beyond

I have watched the movie Twilight once, and while I'm not a huge fan I did think that it was an OK film. I also haven't read any of the books that inspired the movie, however I did read something this morning related to the film that I had to share with you guys and it has to do with one of the actors in the film. His name is Peter Facinelli, (side trivia: He is married to Jennie Garth) he played Dr. Carlisle Cullen in the movie. On Sunday, March 22nd, Peter went to Fort Lewis in Washington State to do a Twilight DVD signing for military personnel and family stationed at Fort Lewis and McChord AFB. He was scheduled to start signing autographs at around 9:30 AM and it was supposed to last for only 2 hours. Instead of staying there just those 2 hours and leaving countless fans without an autograph, Peter decided that he was going to stay there until EVERY single person received an autograph. He ended up sitting at the PX (Post Exchange, essentially the military version of a Walmart Supercenter) for almost 17 hours straight, signing items for over 5,000 fans! There was no limit on how many things he would sign or how many pictures he would take with anyone who asked.

It is very rare these days to see a celebrity do something so selfless and so dedicated to their fans, so I wanted to pass this along. He could have easily stopped after a couple hours so he could go catch his flight out of town, instead he canceled his flight and stayed there to keep signing. He definitely deserves recognition for this, and I for one am now a huge fan of his.

Actor Peter Facinelli, currently featured in the blockbuster movie “Twilight,” was busy boosting the morale of Soldiers and their Families at the Ft. Lewis Post Exchange this weekend. In fact, if Facinelli were employed by the Army & Air Force Exchange Service, he probably would be due some overtime pay as he cheerfully hosted more than 5,000 fans during a marathon autograph session that stretched from Saturday to early Sunday morning.

So I know I'm a little late on this one, and I'm not patient enough to add links to the information, but I can still rant about it.

Apparently unlike the other times BHO invites the cameras in to watch him sign some legislation into law and all, he likes to keep the controversial (completely ridiculous) stuff out of view of the public eye.

For example, his recent decision to remove the ability for commercial airline pilots, who go through the required course and training, to carry a firearm with them on the plane. What the hell is he thinking?!?! Has he never heard of hijackers taking over a plane with the smallest weapon possible because no one in the cockpit is armed?? Did he sleep through the events on 9/11?! There are so many examples any one of us could name where the outcome would've/could've been a hell of a lot different had the ppl in the cockpit been armed.

Not every flight is lucky enough to have a federal air marshal on the flight. It would make things a lot more difficult for the ppl trying to take the plane over if they knew there was a pilot or 2 with a couple handguns waiting for them. Unfortunately, Ohblahma decided that we aren't important enough to keep safe anymore. It's no secret how much I disapprove of everything our Comrade in Chief does and is about, but you'd think common sense would apply here. I imagine that he doesn't disapprove of those who have the proper firearms/weapons training to carry them on Air Force One. Perhaps he's the only one who is important enough to protect in that manner. I'd love to hear his explanation on this matter, but the MSM is too in love with him to dare ask questions that would be difficult for him to answer.

Mr. President, be prepared to grovel at the feet of every single family member that suffers from your poor judgement and under-handed move. I pray you come to your senses and reverse this asinine decision. I apologize if this post is scatter-brained, emotions run high and grammar suffers.

My Thoughts on the AIG distraction.

It truly bothers me that both the Democrats and the Republicans can be so obtuse as to think we'll believe their "outrage" over something they themselves created. They already sent billions and billions to AIG and they're pissed over less than a tenth of 1% of the money they handed over.

Meanwhile, while everyone is distracted, the Ohblahma Administration dumps a trillion dollars of our money that we currently don't have into the economy, further de-valuing the already declining dollar.

Back to the AIG nonsense. It's nice to see our govt stand together and vote on something that is utterly unconstitutional. My fear about that is that it will end up being argued by the SCOTUS, wasting more taxpayer's money. AIG will hire lawyers with the bailout money they have (our money), and suing the govt. Otherwise known as a colossal waste of taxpayer's money all around.

In the end, my thoughts are that we should be beyond angry. We should finally do something besides sit and bitch about how our govt doesn't work for we the people anymore. This debacle will take decades to recover from and pay off, and if we don't change what's been going on for far too long, we're telling them it's ok to continue doing this to us. The 2nd American Revolution is coming.

BURBANK, Calif. -- President Barack Obama has told Jay Leno he was stunned when he learned of the bonuses that bailed-out insurance giant AIG was paying its employees.

Now this part is very interesting to me... Considering the stimulus package that was "whisked" through Congress and sent to Obama for his signature had specific language allowing bonuses if they were part of a written employment contract "executed on or before February 11, 2009." Now if he (or any member of Congress) would have actually read this "extremely important and crucial" bill that was "necessary to bring our country out of recession," he would have seen this key part of the stimulus package. Heck, if he would have even just followed his campaign promise and given American citizens a 5 (five) day period of review before he signed it, there is a chance it could have been caught. I'm just saying...

Obama told "The Tonight Show" host the payments raise moral end ethical problems -- and the administration's going to do everything it can to get them back.

But Obama added the bigger problem is the culture that allowed traders to claim them. He said that's got to change if the economy is to recover.

Obama also spoke about his embattled Treasury chief, Timothy Geithner, saying he is doing an "outstanding job."

Listing the recession, the banking crisis and the need to coordinate with other countries, Obama acknowledged Geithner's "on the hot seat". But he said too many in Washington are trying to figure out who to blame for things -- when they should be focused on fixing them.

It's interesting to see all of the Democrats scramble to find someone to lay blame to. The nice thing is that since they (the Democrats) hold most of the power in Congress currently, and they are the only ones involved in writing the stimulus package, there is essentially no way to place blame on a Republican. However, I would not be surprised to see them still find a way to try and blame Republicans for the language being placed in the package.

He said that Geithner is a smart guy who's been handed an incredibly full plate. But he's handling it all with grace and good humor.

As far as Obama's sense of humor had him saying something he may regret.

Leno complimented Obama on his 129 point bowling score, but the president quipped, "It was like the Special Olympics or something."

Lets see any Republican (let alone a Republican President) say this very same thing and see how quickly it makes front page news and how many people call for a resignation or public apology.

Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton said the president's offhand remark was not meant to disparage the Special Olympics, only to poke some fun at the commander-in-chief's bowling skills.

"He thinks that the Special Olympics are a wonderful program that gives an opportunity to shine to people with disabilities from around the world," Burton told reporters flying back to Washington with Obama aboard Air Force One.

According to NBC, Obama was the first sitting president ever to appear on "The Tonight Show." He'd already appeared twice as a candidate.

Is this something he is proud of? Is he the President or a celebrity? He doesn't take the office seriously. There is a reason why no other sitting President has been on a late night talk show... There is a reason why Presidents Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush required people to wear their jacket with their suit when they entered the Oval Office. There is a reason why a President should ALWAYS be on time. The office of President is a prestigious post. It is a symbol of our citizens and should be treated with a very high level of respect and dignity. Yes, they can be considered trivial things, but if he doesn't take small things serious then who is to say he would take anything else seriously?

What is a key indicator of immaturity and irresponsibility that you pickup on as a parent, employer, member of a group tasked with a mission: some member that is always late. The teenager late for class, the employee late to a job site and the customer calling with "Where is Barack? He is late for work." If I was late to work this often I would be fired. That's a plain fact.

Woodburn Oregon Market Robbed At Gunpoint

WOODBURN, Ore. -- Deputies said a man entered a market just after midnight Wednesday and robbed it at gunpoint.

The owner of T&C Market on Portland Road NE in Woodburn told police that he was at the front counter talking to a customer at about 12:30 a.m. when the man entered the store and pointed a gun at them, said Lt. Sheila Lorance of the Marion County Sheriff's Department.

The gunman, speaking in Spanish, told the owner and customer to go to the back room and get down on the floor while he patted them down, Lorance said.

The man took an undisclosed amount of money from the store's cash drawer and told the two victims to get under a desk while he closed the door and escaped, Lorance said.

The robber is described as a heavyset Hispanic man in his 20s. He was wearing dark clothing and carrying a silver semi-automatic handgun.

Anyone with information about the robbery should contact the Marion County Sheriff's Office at 503-932-7749.

I received an email from a guy that seems to disagree with my statements about Obama's stimulus package. He rambled on and on about "facts" that he has not been able to back-up. I try to provide documentation to go with any facts that I use in a debate, but I guess Liberals operate under a different method and just say what they hear or think and expect it to be taken as fact. Sorry, it doesn't work that way. Anyway, here is his email and my response. His email was titled "It's our $ and we want him to spend it (That's why we voted him in. NOW STFU!!!)" His words are in regular font, mine are bold. It was fun responding, I hope you have just as much fun reading it.

Every notable and serious economist, in the country said that we needed a big stimulus package, if it was going to work. The truth of the matter is that it's probably not big enough. Really? Can you provide us with names AND links to "every notable and serious" economist that made these statements and isn't on the Democrats payroll or listed on the "liberal common sense" site? Good luck
If you believe what the conservatives are telling you, you should think about who got us into this and reevaluate your belief system, and where you get your information. The stimulus package contains tax cuts(too many for businesses) that the Republicans wanted, but most going to working families, and lots of much needed spending. The National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA) of 1933, which exempted industries from antitrust prosecution if they agreed to enter into collective bargaining agreements that significantly raised wages. Cole and Ohanian calculate that NIRA and its aftermath account for 60 percent of the weak recovery. Without the policies, they contend that the Depression would have ended in 1936 instead of the year when they believe the slump actually ended: 1943.

In case you aren't aware of who they are, they are a non-partisan government agency that acts as an "official scorekeeper" of legislation. They historically tend to favor the Democrats positions and they even say specifically that Obama's plan might help in the short term, but the long term effects would outweigh the positive.

President Obama's economic recovery package will actually hurt the economy more in the long run than if he were to do nothing, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said Wednesday.
CBO, the official scorekeepers for legislation, said the House and Senate bills will help in the short term but result in so much government debt that within a few years they would crowd out private investment, actually leading to a lower Gross Domestic Product over the next 10 years than if the government had done nothing.

Take it or leave it... Spending money like this is like getting a new credit card to pay of your old/current debt. Sure it clears up what you have due right now, but eventually you are going to have to pay off that credit card. The debt is still there.

While we were all told by the great and powerful Obama that we all needed to make sacrifices, like keeping our thermostat at 72 degrees, and he stated that he would lead by example during his campaign stop here in Oregon back in May 2008, it seems he "changed his mind." The guy tells us that small steps can help save energy... but he can't even do this one small thing himself. If he is going to lie about something so small, how do you think he will handle the bigger, more important issues? Take it for what it's worth. The guy is not a leader, he does what he wants because he is arrogant. That's not a good thing. How does he expect people to follow his policies when he isn't able to follow them himself?

President Obama lectured voters during the campaign about the need to make sacrifices for the environment. But now it's warm and toasty in the White House -- so much so that aides have likened it to a tropical hot house -- and Obama is under fire for turning up the heat.

Obama made climate change a staple of his stump speech last year, calling on Americans to lower their energy use and set a model for the rest of the world in combating climate change.

During a campaign event in Oregon in May, Obama said we have to "lead by example." "We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times," he said.

"That's not leadership. That's not going to happen."

But for the first few weeks of his presidency, that's precisely what has happened in the White House.

On the first day of his presidency, Obama allowed staffers to venture into the Oval Office without wearing coat and tie, which had been obligatory under President Bush. Fashion observers called it a new age of business casual at the White House.

Obama's aides had a simpler explanation. Though he's spent more than 20 years in Chicago, the president was born in Hawaii. And so he "likes it warm" in the Oval Office, said Chief of Staff David Axelrod. "You could grow orchids in there," he told the New York Times.

But while it's perpetual summer in the Oval Office, the rest of the country has been trudging through a tough winter. Ice storms have cut power to millions in the Midwest and South.

With few orchids growing in the heartland, critics are saying that Obama -- who urged individual sacrifice in an inaugural address that called for a "new era of responsibility" -- hasn't been willing to bear the cold with the rest of the country.

"It's stunning hypocrisy," said Christopher Horner, a senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute and author of two books critical of global warming activists. "Obama spins the dial up, takes off his coat and seeks to mandate that we turn the dial down," he said.

Obama could take a lesson from one of his predecessors, critics say.

During the gasoline shortage of the 1970s, President Jimmy Carter famously donned a cardigan and turned down the thermostat in the White House. He urged the nation to do the same during a notably chilly fireside chat he gave from his cooled-off home -- a symbolic gesture intended to move other Americans to go easy on the country's depleted stores of energy.

Charles Ebinger, director of the Energy Security Initiative at the Brookings Institute, said that presidential roles and security measures will necessarily prevent Obama from being completely green.

"No one can justify from an energy-efficiency standpoint riding in a bulletproof car, but as president of the United States I think we need to protect his security," he said. "Symbolically it's important, but I wouldn't read too much into it."

The 800-square-foot Oval Office accounts for only a small part of the White House's overall area: at 55,000 square feet, the Georgian mansion is a public institution, and taxpayers cover the cost of powering a building that is part dwelling, part museum and the nerve center of the Executive Branch of the U.S. government.

The White House began going green during the 1990s, and reports from the Department of Energy show that innovations and changes have saved hundreds of thousands of dollars in energy costs each year for the buildings that house White House staff.

Obama's White House declined to comment on the president's personal energy use, but did note that his stimulus package will continue the greening trend, paving the way for 75 percent of federal buildings to be modernized to increase their energy efficiency.

Yet in the sanctum sanctorum of executive power, Obama has kept it steamy -- literally. The entire White House complex is heated by steam radiators, part of an old energy system that continues to undergo renovations.

Critics say it's time for the president to put his coat -- or his cardigan -- back on.

Horner said the president should follow the demands he's made of the rest of the country and start "turning down the dial and putting on a sweater instead of [demanding] sacrifice he talks about for other people."

But some energy experts say Obama, who made energy efficiency a cornerstone of his campaign, needs to stay on message.

"He's got to make every American make a personal commitment" to decrease their own energy use and educate the country about the threat of climate change, he said. "The earlier the president can convey that message the better."

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — More than a year after denying it, the newly elected mayor of Portland has admitted having a sexual relationship with a male teenager in 2005.

Sam Adams, who is openly gay, acknowledged the relationship in a statement Monday, after the Willamette Week newspaper broke the story on its Web site.

In Washington, D.C., for the inauguration, Adams will cut his trip short to issue a public apology Tuesday afternoon in Portland, said Wade Nkrumah, his spokesman.

Adams, 45, said he and the teen were together in the summer of 2005, shortly after the teenager turned 18 in June, and when Adams was a city commissioner. The revelations come nearly a year and a half after Adams and the teen said rumors of a sexual relationship between them were false.

"I lied at the time because I was afraid that people would believe untrue rumors being circulated by an undeclared mayoral opponent that I had broken a law involving sexual relations with a minor. But this is not a good excuse," Adams said in his statement.

Despite the rumors, Adams coasted to victory in his race, making Portland the largest U.S. city to ever elect an openly gay mayor. He was sworn in Jan. 1.

In his statement Monday, Adams apologized to the teen for making him lie about the relationship. He also apologized to colleagues and voters.

The young man, now 21, did not immediately return a request for comment.

First of all, as the report states, the issue was brought up during the election but it was called a vicious rumor and the person who brought it up was railroaded and forced out of the election. Now the truth comes out, I wonder what will happen? I'm guessing that just like Obama, this will be swept under the rug and things will go on like "normal."

Sam Adams needs to resign. He BROKE THE LAW. He was involved with a 17 year old and as such he committed statutory RAPE. There is no way around that. The child was not emancipated nor was he married to Sam Adams. I am SICK and tired of the double standard. This should be the #1 news story but it's been shoved to the back page. A sad, sad day in Portland. It's no better than Chigaco.

On the eve of what could turn out to be the beginning of the end of The United States that we cherish, there is good news coming from Washington, D.C. It seems that in one of his final acts as President, George W. Bush has finally acted on the case involving 2 former Border Patrol agents, Ramos and Compean. If you recall, back in November, the pair was sentenced to 12 years in prison for their role in the shooting of an illegal alien that was caught smuggling drugs into the United States. They will be released on March 20th, 2009.

Change we can believe in! NOT

If there's one thing that we can believe in when it comes to Barack Obama, it's that we can certainly expect change with him. The guy truly loves change. Hell, it seems like he changes his stance on at least one item every single day. Today, he actually changed his stance on off shore oil drilling. He said that he would actually consider off-shore drilling! Meanwhile his fellow DemocRATS [sorry, I had to :)], led by Nancy Pelosi, in the House decided that it was too much for them to openly debate allowing an off-shore drilling plan, so they just left for the rest of the summer, leaving the American public to deal with the cost of gasoline on their own. Apparently Nancy has a new book out and she needed to get on the road for her book tour. I guess we know what's more important to her. She was so concerned about getting on the road for her book tour that she flat out refused to even begin a discussion on off-shore drilling. They claim that "even if we allowed drilling today, we wouldn't see any change or oil until 2016 and even then it would only lower about 10 cents... yada yada yada." Really? Well, considering that the day George Bush announced he was lifting the Executive ban on off-shore drilling we saw oil prices drop immediately, I'm not buying it. Since that day I have seen the price of gasoline drop over 30 cents per gallon... JUST FROM HIM SAYING THAT HE WAS REMOVING THE EXECUTIVE BAN!!!!! Imagine what could happen if we actually started exploring and drilling! Also, to address the whole "2016" claim, there are locations that have already been explored (pre-ban) and are ready to drill and produce oil in as little as 2 years. Face it, the world is NOT going to give up oil anytime soon. No matter how much you global warming "fear mongers" like it, there are countries like China that are going through an industrial revolution and will continue to increase the demand on oil for many years to come... But we can have the Global Warming debate another time. As you have guessed, I definately have an opinion on THAT subject.

What a foolish little man our dear Mayor is

If anyone has been paying attention to what's been going on lately with this whole Interstate Ave. name change ordeal, then you'll love what's been going on recently. I won't go into detail, as my colleague will most likely post an in-depth review of what has transpired recently. I only wish to comment on what seems to be a bit of hypocrisy mixed with a touch of lunacy.

It amazes me whenever you try to engage a person with an opposing view point, that a large majority of those people will bring charges of racism, fascism, bigotry, hatred, & plenty of other character assessments into the otherwise peaceful debate. It turns into an argument where one side attempts to make a legitimate claim or raise a legitimate question, & the other side calls you a name or otherwise detracts from the subject at hand. When I hear things like the mayor storm'n out of a meeting, where everyone was being civil (almost everyone), it makes me wonder if his leadership can be effective if he is unwilling to see both side's point of view.

I'd like to think that he would listen to ALL sides on the matter & make a decison after weighing his options. He obviously disagrees with those who would rather not change that street from Interstate Ave. to Cesar Chavez. It doesn't bother me that he disagrees with some of the people. What bothers me is that he doesn't want to think of alternative ways to honor Chavez. It seems like a few elected officials around the country have decided that listen'n to the people who elected them isn't as important as is forcing something onto the majority of people what a small minority of people might want. You'd think a politician of all people would be willing to compromise with his people. The fact is that a lot of people that own businesses on that street & citizens within the community don't want the name change for that street. You could find an alternate street to do this to could you not?

There's nothing wrong with respecting good people and being proud of it. What's wrong is when you would rather label people who are against just that street not being changed to a different name racists, bigots, & what not, you ruin the civility of it all. Be civil about this is all I'm asking for. Don't storm out like a spoiled brat & then expect to be apologized to for something you did. Our mayor was in the wrong & he should own that. It would be much better for all of us if he used all this energy & emotion on something the entire community needs helps with. Our city has enough problems that need to be dealt with. Being high & mighty about this is a waste of time & energy. Grow up, shut up, & listen to what the people have to say. (regardless of race*

From time to time I like to visit the site Wizbang. You can get both sides of the argument depending on which version of Wizbang you want to read. Recently they had an interesting post about the left's golden boy, Obama. I prefer to just talk about other ppl's work than actually do my own lol. Beware, I'm a lazy man!!

I find it quite interesting that on the surface, ideas can seem new and bold, but once you delve into the details, the idea doesn't seem quite so bold after all.

It's The Law!

5. Foreigners can invest in this country, but it
must be an amount equal to 40,000 times the
daily minimum wage.

6. If foreigners do come and want to buy land that will be okay, BUT options will be restricted. You are NOT allowed to own waterfront property. That property is reserved for citizens naturally born into this country.

7. Foreigners may NOT protest; NO demonstrations, NO waving a foreign flag, NO political organizing, NO 'bad-mouthing' our president or his policies. If you do you will be sent home.

8. If you do come to this country illegally, you will be hunted down and sent straight to jail.

My letter to the media

We are in the midst of a serious battle in the city of Portland. At least it's serious to those that will be affected. You see, a very small group of activists in Portland decides that they wanted to rename a major street in Portland (Interstate Ave) to Cesar Chavez Blvd. Why? Because they felt it was the best way to honor the civil rights leader. Now Portland has gone through 2 street name changes already... Union Ave was changed to MLK Jr Blvd in the 80's and in the last year, Portland Blvd was renamed "Rosa Parks Way." Each time, the change was suggested, city hall and the commissioners talked about it, they opened it for discussion in the community, then officially changed the name. The thing that they aren't talking about is that the changes were already approved by the city before they had their official "vote." We are now facing the same problem with this most recent suggestion. The Mayor of Portland and several city commissioners, including the county commissioner are already showing that they are in favor of the change. When we sent an email to the mayor asking for him to also place the petition against the name change on his site, his office simply replied: "Please send me any ipetitions you are interested in adding to the Mayor's website for review. In the case of the petition you are referencing, the reason there is not a petition from the other side is that the Mayor is a supporter of the community-led effort to rename Interstate Avenue in honor of César Chávez. Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions." A Multnomah County Commissioner, Jeff Cogen, also seems to be in favor of the change. He also has a link that directs people to the iPetition that is in favor of the name change. With the folks that are in power and able to make the change already showing the direction they are heading in this decision, it seems like we are fighting an uphill battle. Despite having the odds against us, we are refusing to give up! I have created a petition online at iPetitions.com as well. My petition has been up since September 5th, and I already have over 320 signatures. The petition in favor of the change has been up since August 23rd, and they have 170 signatures (most of which are duplicates, including one individual posting over SEVEN times alone).

I think that it's easy to see that the community is against the change, but I fear that our voices won't be heard. Our local media is doing very little about it and without some media support we may not win. This is where we need your help. We need your help in getting the word out about the proposed change. We need your help in getting the word out about our Mayor and his decision to ignore the opposition. You might remember our fabulous Mayor from previous new stories, like the one where he kicked the anti-terrorism task force out of Portland (refusing to allow the city police to cooperate).

Those in favor of renaming Interstate Ave to Cesar Chavez Blvd have inevitably began calling those that oppose it "racists" and "bigots." They fail to realize that we are opposed to any change of name, the fact that the person they want the change to be made for is latino has nothing to do with it. It is unnecessary, it places a financial burden on the businesses and residents located on the Avenue, and it's a poor use of Portland's tax funds during a time when we could be spending the money on our public school system (or other well deserving opportunities). This change will cost over $100,000 of our hard earned money and it's something that we, the tax paying citizens of Portland, should refuse to pay for. On our petition against the name change, we actually suggest better alternatives to renaming the street. "We feel that there are much better ways to honor the legacy of this civil rights leader, for example: a community center for advancement that has outreach programs to local schools and the community to encourage and increase the awareness of their struggles." We aren't making this an issue of race, but of course those that want to change the streets name are making it an issue of race. Cesar Chavez was an American. Cesar Chavez was also AGAINST illegal immigration. If it were an issue of race, I would be the first to support the change...

Making a difference

As you might have noticed, I haven't been posting very much in the last couple of weeks. I have been caught up in the proposal to change the name of Interstate Ave. and the fight to prevent it. My petition, found at: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/Keep_Interstate_Ave_Alive/ has been receiving a great amount of attention locally and it's a good feeling to become part of something that you believe in. The petition has over 315 signatures already, it has been linked on KPTV.com, and I have received a few requests for interviews in regards to it. Despite the fact that the Mayor of Portland has already made his mind up on the issue (see the link on his site to the petition in favor of the change, as he refused to put our petition up), I will continue to fight this frivolous waste of tax payer money until I cannot fight any longer. I appreciate all of the support I have received and I ask that you continue to send the link for the petition out to everyone you know. We need to show this Mayor and his commissioners that we will not be bullied around any longer. We are individuals, but together we have a very strong voice.

It's crazy that it's been 6 years since that day that I remember very well. I was playing this computer game called Lineage. As I sat there, oblivious to the real world, I had a friend that started talking to everyone and she was saying something about some plane hitting the World Trade Center. For awhile we all wondered if it was some idiot in a prop plane that was completely clueless. I decided to log off the game and turn on the t.v. to see what the big deal was. As I turned on the t.v., I was amazed to see a burning hole in the side of the tower. I really had no clue at all what was really going on at the time.

My roommate came downstairs and I told him to check it out, and we both sat there watching for a while. It wasn't much longer until the 2nd plane hit. If it wasn't obvious before, it was definitely obvious now that someone or some group had decided to deliberately do this. I'm not sure if I would call the fact that I didn't see the people jumping from a burning building to their death, a fortunate thing. I was nowhere near any of the things that happened throughout the rest of that awful day. I could go on forever with a play by play account of what I was doing the entire day, but you get the idea. I made sure that I wouldn't forget what happened that day. With all the nonsense going on these days from people on both ends of the political spectrum, I just wanted to remind the people I know and love, that we should never forget what happened 6 years ago today.

We gained and lost so many truly heroic people that day. I, for one, am proud that they were Americans and that I too am American. I wish I had better words to express how I feel. This is my way of letting them know that they will always be remembered.

North Interstate Ave to be called Cesar Chavez Blvd??

There seems to be a slowly and quietly growing push to change the name of Interstate Ave in Portland, OR to "Cesar Chavez Blvd." I for one am absolutely against a name change like this. First of all, the businesses on this street will incur a lot of costs to change their business cards, letterheads, websites, etc... not to mention the fact that they will have to notify all customers and vendors of the change. Secondly, I sincerely fail to see how changing the name of this street will have a cultural impact on the area when the dense "Latino" population is no where near the street. Perhaps you should change Baseline Rd in Hillsboro to Cesar Chavez Blvd? Finally, why does changing the name of a street have to be the only way to honor this person? Why not build a center for advancement in the name of Cesar Chavez? Offer educational services and reach out to local schools. Those are just my .02 cents. However it does appear that the Mayor of Portland, Tommy "I love Illegals" Potter loves the idea and is pushing forward to get the change approved (big surprise?). Now there seems to be a petition on iPetitions to gather "signatures" online so that the Mayor and his followers can show that the community supports this change. Well guess what? Mexico trucks to roll on U.S. highways

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Bush administration can proceed with a plan to open the U.S. border to long haul Mexican trucks as early as next week after an appeals court rejected a bid by labor, consumer and environmental interests to block the initiative.

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco late on Friday denied an emergency petition sought by the Teamsters union, the Sierra Club and consumer group Public Citizen to halt the start of a one-year pilot program that was approved by Congress after years of legal and political wrangling.

The Transportation Department welcomed the decision and said in a statement that allowing more direct shipments from Mexico will benefit U.S. consumers.

The 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement approved broader access for ground shipments from both countries but the Clinton administration never complied with the trucking provision. A special tribunal ordered the Bush administration to do so in 2001.

"This is the wrong decision for working men and women," Jim Hoffa, president of the Teamsters, said in a statement after the court ruling. "We believe this program clearly breaks the law." The Teamsters represents truckers that would be affected by the change.

The emergency stay was sought on grounds the administration's pilot program had not satisfied the U.S. Congress' requirements on safety and other issues. But the appeals court ruled otherwise.

SAFETY ASPECTS

The administration plans to start the program on September 6. Transportation Department officials hope to receive final clearance early next week from the department's inspector general's office, which is reviewing its safety aspects, and finalize details with Mexican authorities.

The Mexican government must grant reciprocal access to U.S. trucks under NAFTA. That provision is not expected to be a problem, regulators said.

Mexican trucks operating in the United States have for years been restricted to U.S. points near certain large border crossings where their goods are transferred to trucks owned by U.S. firms.

Under the pilot program, Mexican long haul trucking companies that have met safety, licensing, and other U.S. requirements will be allowed to operate their rigs throughout the country. Proponents say this will reduce costs and speed up shipments.

Trucking regulators said in a court filing the goal is to gradually accommodate 100 Mexican trucking companies by the end of the pilot program, or roughly 540 large trucks.

But opponents said those figures do not reflect the number of companies that could seek access to U.S. roads if the pilot is successful, which they said raises safety concerns.

"This (pilot) program is basically a show trial. They haven't provided notice up front about who will participate. You just don't know what the program will look like," said Bonnie Robin-Vergeer, attorney for Public Citizen.

Public Citizen and the Teamsters still plan to proceed with a lawsuit they filed in federal court, challenging the Mexican truck program on broader grounds. That case will not likely be decided until next year.

An open letter to President Felipe Calderon. Coming off Labor Day, Mr. President, there is just not a better time to talk about the American worker than now. Hard working, dedicated, loyal, resourceful, inventive, honest. The American worker is the model by which employees around the world should aspire to be like, but there are those jobs that exist that even the mighty American worker just won't do. Luckily that's where you come in, Mexico. I'm so excited to hear the news that trucking companies from Mexico are now operating freely here in the United States. Honestly it seems like such a logical idea with absolutely no flaws whatsoever. I mean, what could possibly go wrong, Felipe? It's not like your country has millions of peoples willing to pile themselves up like human sardines just to cross the border illegally. No, uh-uh. If that were the situation, then I'd be a little worried. However, since Mexico has a vibrant economy, a surplus of great jobs, unmatched pride and simply no corruption whatsoever, I'm completely at ease with the idea of giant trucks from Mexico roaming around here in the U.S. if you didn't have a country with such integrity and such spirit, one might consider this program simply a bad idea. Plus, it's not like there's all kinds of drug problems south of the border or terrorists out there are looking for new ways to penetrate our border with large caches of weapons or even a nuclear weapon. That's certainly not happening and if it was, I'd certainly be concerned if that threat were out there, obviously if terrorists knew about available transportation across the U.S. border with such large storage capacity, we'd be all over them because they'd be all over that. But thankfully Americans know that no amount of money besides maybe $75 or, call me crazy, a hundred bucks is worth selling out America over to any Mexican. >From the bottom of our hearts, President Felipe, we'd like to share this monumental step towards a borderless north Mexico with a toast. Dear Senator Harkin, As a native Iowan and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted the of Homeland Security in an effort to determine the process for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you.

My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen to illegal alien stems from the bill which was recently passed by the Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill's provisions is accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the United States for five years, all I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a $2,000 fine and income taxes for three of the last five years. I know a good deal when I see one and I am anxious to get the process started before everyone
figures it out.

Simply put, those of us who have been here legally have had to pay taxes every year so I'm excited about the prospect of avoiding two years of taxes in return for paying a $2,000 fine. Is there any way that I can apply to be illegal retroactively? This would yield an excellent result for me and my family because we paid heavy taxes in 2004 and 2005.

Additionally, as an illegal alien I could begin using the local emergency room as my primary health care provider. Once I have stopped paying premiums for medical insurance, my accountant figures I could save almost $10,000 a year.

Another benefit in gaining illegal status would be that my daughter would receive preferential treatment relative to her law school applications, as well as "in-state" tuition rates for many colleges throughout the United States for my son.

Lastly, I understand that illegal status would relieve me of the burden of renewing my driver's license and making those burdensome car insurance premiums. This is very important to me given that I still have college age children driving my car.

If you would provide me with an outline of the process to become illegal (retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary forms, I would be most appreciative.

Three arrested after teen beaten, shot in Newberg

NEWBERG, Ore. - A 16-year-old boy was hospitalized after police said he was beaten and then shot twice in the head.

Police responded to a 911 call around 10 p.m. Monday near South College and East Ninth Street in Newberg and when they arrived, they found 16-year-old Rodolfo Veneroso-Santiago badly injured.

The teenager was taken by LifeFlight to a Portland hospital. His condition has not been released.

Three teenagers have been charged in connection with the incident - 16-year-old Marino Doniquez-Avendano, 16-year-old Jesus Antonio Gonzalez and 17-year-old Brian Joseph Perez.

All three are being held at the Yamhill County Detention Facility on assault and robbery charges and are expected to appear in court Wednesday afternoon.

Police said the incident is not typical for crime in Newberg, although the traditionally rural area is growing quickly due to new businesses in the area and affordable home prices.

Cockfighting investigation nets 7 workers suspected of immigration violations

Authorities who descended on a Benton County dairy Tuesday to arrest a man suspected of running a cockfighting operation also took six other dairy workers into custody on suspicion of immigration violations.

Seven of the 11 employees at the Van Beek Dairy near Monroe — including Martin Ramos-Reyes, 36, who on Wednesday was arraigned on two felony charges related to keeping and rearing fighting birds and methamphetamine possession — remained in the Benton County jail on Wednesday.

Ramon-Reyes was granted a court-appointed attorney and bail was set at $30,000 during his arraignment. Immigration and Customs Enforcement also placed a hold on him, meaning that if Ramon-Reyes did post bail he would immediately be taken into federal custody.

Following Tuesday’s raid by the Corvallis Police Department, FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the owners of the family-owned Van Beek Dairy were scrambling Wednesday to recruit help from friends, churches and Oregon State University students get their 1,200 cows milked.

Amy Van Beek, whose husband, Martin Van Beek, and brother-in-law, Fred Van Beek, are partners in the dairy, said police told the family they were also investigating Ramos-Reyes for allegedly supplying forged documents to fellow workers at the dairy. Van Beek said all of the dairy’s employees had identification documents such as Social Security cards. If the documents were forged, the dairy didn’t know it, she insisted.

Deputy District Attorney Karen Stanley said investigators believe Ramos-Reyes provided roosters for a cockfight held in July. On Tuesday, authorities found more than 35 birds at the dairy and seized two roosters with injuries consistent with having been involved in fighting. One of the roosters was blinded in one eye.

Van Beek said they had heard some indication several months ago that Ramos-Reyes was breeding roosters at the dairy. Her husband and brother-in-law told him he had to remove them, she said. As far as the Van Beeks knew, Ramos-Reyes had no more than six or seven roosters at the dairy, she said.

“We watched them put them in a truck and take them away,” Van Beek said.

She said she does not believe cockfights were held at the dairy.

“We never saw like a ton of cars here or anything like that,” she said. “If there were fights, it would have to be when we were away as a family.”

The family does not condone cockfighting, Van Beek said.

“As a family, that’s something that we are very much against,” she said.

Police said the dairy’s owners cooperated in the investigation of the suspected cockfighting.

Ramos-Reyes began working at the dairy about five years ago as the main herdsman and was doing a good job, Van Beek said. He lives at the dairy with his wife and three children.

Van Beek said she was upset by the arrests.

“The biggest thing we want to communicate to people is how absolutely horribly these Hispanic people are treated when this happens,” Van Beek said.

Ramos-Reyes’ children were frightened when officers entered his home with weapons drawn, she said. Six children of dairy employees who were taken into custody are now without either one or both parents.

“It was devastating to the kids,” she said. “These families are hard-working, really sweet people.”

Keizer Man Stabbed Several Times; Attacker Sought

SALEM, Ore. -- Marion County deputies are looking for the man they said attacked and stabbed a 19-year-old Wednesday night.

Keizer police officers said they received information around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday from Salem Hospital that a man had come into the emergency room with multiple stab wounds.

The incident happened near the intersection of York Avenue and Edith Street northeast in Marion County.

The victim, later identified as Felipe Zacarias, told police that the man then stabbed him multiple times with an unknown weapon before he was able to get away.

The victim suffered serious injuries, but they were non-life-threatening. Zacarias was treated and released to family members.

The attacker was described as Hispanic, 20 to 24 years old and 6 feet tall with a large build and bald head.

Anyone with information is urged to call Marion County authorities.

As boring as I see all these debates from both Democrats and Republicans, it does give me the opportunity to find the weaknesses among each candidate.

Poor Mr. Obama, he has such star power that he's stayed popular for as long as he has. Unfortunately, as much as people say they are looking for change, they aren't looking for change that doesn't seem to have a clue politically speaking. Lately it seems that he doesn't have anyone advising him when he speaks about foreign policies. I'll give him points for what he said about Pakistan, even though he parsed his words carefully by saying "actionable intelligence". I do think it would be within the best interests of the United States if we actually killed Osama. Unfortunately, he's not the only terrorist out there, but it might just get some on the far left to shut up about Bin Laden still being out there.

I'll comment on the other candidates when I have more time. This is just my 1st posting, and I needed to get the whole, "Obama has no political skills to back himself up on" out of my head. It's interesting being a conservative in Oregon. I have so much to talk about, and even more to rant about. Hopefully I can get around to actually doing it.

Carjack Suspect Taken Into Custody Thanks To GPS

VANCOUVER, Wash. -- A Vancouver woman has her car back thanks to the vehicle’s global positioning system.

Vancouver police were called to a Fred Meyer grocery store on Grand Boulevard at East Fourth Plain Boulevard around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to investigate a carjacking.

A woman, later identified as 22-year-old Jessica Moran, said a man put a knife to her throat and stole her 2005 Honda Accord. The victim told police that the vehicle was equipped with a GPS through Guidepoint.

The GPS was activated and the vehicle was found parked on Harney Street.

Officers searched the area with a K-9 unit and found a suspect, later identified as 18-year-old Pedro Graciano, at a nearby apartment.

Graciano was taken into custody and transported to the Clark County Jail on robbery charges.

Moran was not injured during the robbery.

Forest Grove Man Arrested After Drug Search

FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- A 19-year-old man from Forest Grove was arrested on drug and weapon charges Monday after police searched his home.

Police said they found 8 grams of cocaine and more than an ounce of marijuana when they searched the home of 19-year-old Jose Mata.

In addition to drugs, police said they found packaging materials and more than $1,200 in cash at Mata's home, which is near Joseph Gale Elementary School in Forest Grove.

Mata was arrested during a traffic stop away from the scene of the search, police said. He was booked into the Washington County Jail on charges of manufacturing, delivering and possessing marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school, as well as manufacturing, delivering and possessing cocaine.

Mata also faces charges of pointing a gun at another person and unlawful use of a weapon from an incident in June.

He was booked into the Washington County jail.

Forest Grove police officers and a K-9 team from the Beaverton Police Department participated in the search.

Accused rapist back in CMPD custody

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police detectives are interviewing Jose Rivera, a 26-year-old illegal immigrant charged with raping three Charlotte women in 2004 and 2005 and who was facing deportation until police charged him with the crimes last month.

Rivera, who was in custody and awaiting deportation in Atlanta, was brought back to Charlotte yesterday, police announced today. He's being held in the Mecklenburg County jail.

Before his return, the Honduran native had been jailed in Mecklenburg County at least eight times since 2004. He was deported in November 2006 but was caught trying to re-enter the country, which led to his time in custody in Atlanta.

Each of the women Rivera is accused of raping was attacked in the morning by a man with a weapon.

The first was April 2, 2004. A 32-year-old woman told police a stranger talked his way into her apartment on Roseview Lane off Eastway Drive around 10:45 a.m. Once inside he pulled out a handgun and raped her. Police would not say what the man said to get in the door.

On Feb. 19, 2005, a 41-year-old woman told police a man overpowered her outside apartments on Woodway Hills Drive off Independence Boulevard around 4:30 a.m. He forced her to perform oral sex on him and raped her. The man used a sharp instrument as a weapon.

Then, on Sept. 25, 2005, a female jogger told police a man grabbed her and threatened her with a screwdriver as she ran along East Boulevard in Dilworth around 7 a.m. The woman said the man pulled her behind a building near Springdale Avenue and raped her. He was wearing only red underwear, and a white cloth covered much of his face.

Last January, police said the serial rapist may have attempted to strike again, after a 41-year-old woman in Myers Park fought off a man with Tae Bo, a type of kick-boxing exercise.

The woman told police she was walking alone when he came up behind her and reached his hands between her legs to try to pick her up.

She screamed and kicked the man, who fled without physically injuring her.

That woman's description of her attacker closely matched the description given by the woman attacked in Myers Park, police said. Rivera has not been charged in that case

Three teens nabbed after stealing bike

CANBY, OR — Canby Police arrested three teenagers in the robbery of a bicycle from a 10-year-old boy last week.

The 10-year-old told police that three Hispanic males stole his bicycle by force near the Casa Verde Apartments on Township Road Thursday afternoon. He said one of the older boys had a knife and threatened bodily harm. Police said the other two made verbal threats.

When police located three juvenile suspects a few blocks away, the 16-year-old admitted taking the bike by force, officers said. They found a large folding knife in his pocket and arrested him for robbery II, a Measure 11 crime. He was lodged at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Facility in Portland.

The two other suspects, ages 13 and 16, were arrested on charges of menacing and lodged at the Clackamas Juvenile Department.

Police said the three suspects are admitted Sureno gang members. The victim was not a gang member.

Search continues for man involved in fatal crash

SALEM, Ore. (AP) - The man behind the wheel of a vehicle that collided head-on with a patrol car in June, killing a Marion County deputy, has been indicted by a grand jury on homicide charges, authorities said.

Police were searching this week for Alfredo De Jesus-Ascenio, 20, of Woodburn. He was critically injured in the crash that killed deputy Kelly Fredinburg, 34, of Independence. De Jesus-Ascenio's passenger, Oscar Ascenio-Amaya, 19, of Woodburn, also died in the crash on Highway 99E near Gervais.

De Jesus-Ascenio was hospitalized for several weeks at Oregon Health & Science University hospital in Portland. He was released last month and is believed to be using a walker.

De Jesus-Ascenio was last known to be in the Woodburn area on Aug. 9, the Oregon State Police said Wednesday.

The homicide charges against De Jesus-Ascenio were not made public until Wednesday, said Don Abar, a deputy district attorney in Marion County.

"When we do a secret indictment, it's not public record," he said. "We can't say anything about it until he is arrested. But there is a circumstance where if we're looking for somebody, and we need help in apprehension, then we can make some of it public. That's what we've done, but I don't feel comfortable talking about the indictment."

A judge issued an arrest warrant for De Jesus-Ascenio about 10 days ago, Abar said.

De Jesus-Ascenio was driving a Ford Crown Victoria when he reportedly crossed into the southbound lane and collided with the patrol car.

The patrol car caught fire and the deputy died at the scene.

State police investigated the crash for more than month before giving the results to the Marion County District Attorney's Office to determine whether to pursue charges.

Abar attributed the lag time to "a lot" of accident reconstruction work.

Kevin Fredinburg, the deputy's brother, said he understands why the investigation took the time it did, but he hopes the suspect has not left the U.S.

"If the driver of the car was any type of man, he'd step forward and take the consequences," Fredinburg said.

Two Arrested In Texas Teen’s Killing

MILWAUKIE, Ore. -- Two people have been arrested in connection with the killing of a 15-year-old girl from Texas.

Clackamas County deputies said Alejandro Rivera Gamboa, 24, and Gilberto Arellano Gamboa, 23, who are cousins, have been arrested and charged with aggravated murder.
Detectives said the men strangled Dani Countryman, who was found dead in a Milwaukie apartment by her sister on the morning of July 28.
According to probable cause documents, Rivera Gamboa said he woke up that morning to find his cousin on top of Countryman. As Countryman struggled, Arellano Gamboa asked his cousin for help, deputies said.
Rivera admitted to stepping his foot on Countryman's throat until she stopped moving, according to authorities.

As detectives investigated the killing, they found blood on a shoe that matched the size of shoe worn by Rivera Gamboa, authorities said. The pattern of the shoe also matched an imprint on Countryman's upper chest, according to detectives.

U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement has also detained both suspects and a hearing will occur at the end of the homicide investigation.

Countryman was visiting her sister, Ashley Countryman, of Oregon City. Deputies said the sisters attended a party at the Balboa Apartments on Southeast Courtney Road on July 27 and ended up sleeping in different apartments.

Rivera Gamboa has been in the Clackamas County Jail since being arrested during the initial phase of the homicide investigation.

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office described the homicide investigation as complex and said that it required several difficult interviews, as well as tedious collection of forensic evidence.

Police: Stabbing Suspect May Still Be In Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Family members are mourning a man stabbed to death early Sunday morning in southeast Portland while police step up efforts to find the suspect.

Raymundo Marquez-Vela, 20, is wanted in the stabbing death of 47-year-old Merle Graham, who was found dead in the 5300 block of Southeast Rhone Street at about 3:40 a.m. on Sunday.

Neighbors said a man and woman were fighting with each other prior to the stabbing. Chris Walhstrom, a neighbor, said she tried to break up the fight. When she yelled at the man to stop, the man threatened to kill Wahlstrom, according to neighbor Alex Mehrabi. Wahlstrom said the man was trying to kick her door down when Graham came to her rescue and was stabbed in the throat. Graham’s family laid him to rest on Tuesday, but they said they refuse to let go until his killer is tracked down. “Knowing this man is in someone’s neighborhood, around someone’s children, and that he could be out there,” said Graham’s niece Misty. “Someone could be harmed before he is apprehended. We want to get justice as quickly as possible.”

On Monday, the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office issued a murder warrant for Marquez-Vela in connection with the killing. Police said they believe Marquez-Vela is still in the Portland area.

He is described as Hispanic, 5 feet 11 inches tall, 180 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Marquez-Vela should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call 503-823-4357 or 911.

Our offices have areas of jurisdiction that are generally determined by state boundaries. The three immigration related agencies -- U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection -- have web sites where you can find immigration information. They are: uscis.gov, ice.gov, and cbp.gov. All three are accessible from the Department of Homeland Security web site -- dhs.gov.

I have condensed the contact information for you, so that you don't have to search very hard.

At uscis.gov (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services), you have a couple options of sending information to them. You can call them at 1-800-375-5283 or they even offer a convenient email address to report illegal immigration. That email address is: uscis.webmaster@dhs.gov

That single line is the biggest load of BS I have seen in a while. First of all, I am 1/4 Cherokee (so according to you I can speak out about this) but I am 100% American. This country/land belongs to me and my fellow Americans. Your argument that today's Americans are immigrants as well so we have no right to complain about illegal immigrants doesn't hold water. If it did then every country in existence (including your beloved Mexico) is full of immigrants and should give up all sovereignty. All humans are immigrants, we have all migrated from other lands and moved to where we are now. Ever hear of the Bering Strait land bridge? Today's Americans are a product of a will, courage, and strong desire to create a better life for themselves. Immigrants of the past have come here and assimilated into what was here. They learned to speak English and embraced everything about the United States. They fought hard and earned the right to be called Americans, and they are damned proud of it too. Now days the illegal immigrants feel entitled and feel like they deserve everything without earning it. They want to prance around praising their home land while telling us Americans how bad we are for not letting them invade our country. I welcome with open arms all those that want to come here for a better life, but please do it legally and through all of the means provided to them. I encourage those that come here legally and assimilate into the culture, while sharing parts of their culture to the melting pot, not making everyone else change their lives to accommodate them. Pedophile's family sues NBC

So everyone out there knows about the "To Catch a Predator" series on NBC's Dateline, right? In case you have lived under a rock for the past 2 years and don't know what I am talking about, check this out: Dateline: To Catch a Predator.

Well, anyway, recently Chris Hansen spent time in Texas trying to catch pedophile predators there in the act of luring underage children into meetings so that they could perform sexual acts on them. It's disgusting just typing that out. They went after countless criminals and showed them on air being busted but not prosecuted. You see, Dateline had recently been involved with the process of charges being filed against some of the pedophiles being caught in Texas and about 24 of those cases were thrown out because of the nature of the evidence and so the prosecutor decided to throw the cases out(saying many of the cases were tainted by the involvement of amateurs). Personally, I question the tactics used but nonetheless if nothing else, it showed family members and neighbors who these guys really were. There was one pedophile that was caught who happened to be an assistant county prosecutor in the Texas county he lived in. This guy "Louis William Conradt Jr." was accused of engaging in a sexually explicit online chat with an adult posing as a 13-year-old boy. They attempted to arrange a meeting at a local home, as Dateline has done in the past, but this guy never showed up. So what does Dateline do? They go to his home WITH the police to question him. While they were waiting outside the guy ended up blowing his brains out with his handgun. It's sad that his family has lost someone that they love, however instead of accepting the fact that he was troubled and in dire need of help they decide to sue NBC for $105 million. Their claim? That NBC robbed him of his due process. First of all, his lawyer said himself on the Glenn Beck program that 24 of the cases that Dateline was involved with were thrown out, insinuating that the cases had no merit or were faulty at best. Then the lawyer makes the claim that NBC was the judge, jury , and executioner of this guy and essentially gave him the death sentence. He stated that if he were to go to trial he wouldn't have a fair chance because Dateline would have caused him to be found guilty automatically (a direct contradiction to his previous statement that Dateline's accusations were bogus). The lawyer actually said that "NBC made him commit suicide." This claim is so bogus (full of B.S.) that I can see the flies from where I sit in Oregon. You see, this family is grieving and part of their grieving process is to deflect the blame, so thats where NBC stands in.

If this case had even gone to trial he would have been tried and judged by a jury of 12 impartial people. They would have listened to all of the facts and made a decision based off of that information. However, as the lawyer pointed out, none of the Dateline cases were even going to trial! The only person guilty of this man's death is his own self. He is the one that put the bullet in the gun, held it to his head, and pulled the trigger. This goes back to the old lawsuits blaming the gun companies for a murder. We might as well start suing Standard Pencils for misspelled words or failed tests while we are at it. It's ridiculous and a waste of tax payers money to take this to court. Could it be that the "alleged" pedophile felt guilty and felt that he couldn't face the humiliation of the facts?

Listen, all I am saying is that it's sad that the family lost a brother, son, uncle, whatever else. It's a shame that he killed himself. Luckily, if he was guilty, he didn't get the chance to prey on an actual 13 year old boy. The only person to blame is this man himself. He initiated the conversation online, he decided to engage in sexual conversations (allegedly), which happened to be monitored by a prime time news program, and they ended up going to his home with the police. It all started with him getting online (allegedly) and if that wouldn't have happened then he would still be alive. Family: don't sue NBC, it will only drag out your grief and cause more humiliation for your family and lost loved one.

You can make more money picking in three months than we make all year long in Mexico." In those days Mexicans actually obeyed the laws. Even then they'd come up in the summer and go back home when the picking season was over. Then the corporations said, "hey, these guys will work for shit wages!" and since then, every Mexican who can't make it in Mexico has come up here to illegally suck off the system.

Get off your high horse about picking crops, you arrogant, ignorant beaner. Some of us from this country picked those crops for years and years and years, as Americans, and never felt an ounce of shame for doing so! Picking crops did not become a "Mexican labor" job until laws were passed that outlawed American kids from earning money in the summer. Picking crops did not become a job "no American would do" until the laws were fixed so that nobody but migrant workers from Mexico picked those crops.

I grew up picking beans every summer. No more than a handful of Mexican people were in the fields then. All rural kids in America did exactly the same thing. Almost ALL the crops used to be picked by American kids. Americans kids used to challenge the Mexican kids, "Let's see who can pick the most beans." Most of the time in those days, it was the American kids that won. So get off your stinking high horse. The only reason you're here at all is because the guys running the corporations think of you as nothing but cheap, expendable labor that they don't have to pay minimum wage to, give benefits to or provide safe working conditions for. You take jobs from Americans. YOU ALWAYS HAVE!

You sit there and shoot of your mouth about picking strawberries like you know what the fuck you are talking about. Just about any American in the state of Oregon over the age of 50 picked strawberries, or beans, or cherries. Just who do you think you are? The kids who can't remember that might fall for your bullshit; they don't know any better. Me? I'm over 50 and I KNOW you are full of bullshit! Go back to Mexico.

I am in charge of the English-as-a-second-language department at a large southern California high school which is designated a Title 1 school, meaning that its students average lower socioeconomic and income levels.

Most of the schools you are hearing about, South Gate High, Bell Gardens, Huntington Park, etc., where these students are protesting, are also Title 1 schools.

Title 1 schools are on the free breakfast and free lunch program. When I say free breakfast, I'm not talking a glass of milk and roll -- but a full breakfast and cereal bar with fruits and juices that would make a Marriott proud. The waste of this food is monumental, with trays and trays of it being dumped in the trash uneaten. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)

I estimate that well over 50% of these students are obese or at least moderately overweight. About 75% or more DO have cell phones. The school also provides day care centers for the unwed teenage pregnant girls (some as young as 13) so they can attend class without the inconvenience of having to arrange for babysitters or having family watch their kids. I was ordered to spend $700,000 on my department or risk losing funding for the upcoming year even though there was little need for anything; my budget was already substantial. I ended up buying new computers for the computer learning center, half of which, one month later, have been carved with graffiti by the appreciative students who obviously feel humbled and grateful to have a free education in America. I have had to intervene several times for young and substitute teachers whose classes consist of many illegal immigrant students here in the country less then 3 months who raised so much hell with the female teachers, calling them "Putas" whores and throwing things that the teachers
were in tears.

Free medical, free education, free food, day care etc., etc., etc. Is it any wonder they feel entitled to not only be in this country but to demand rights, privileges and entitlements?

To those who want to point out how much these illegal immigrants contribute to our society because they LIKE their gardener and housekeeper and they like to pay less for tomatoes: spend some time in the real world of illegal immigration and see the TRUE costs.

Higher insurance, medical facilities closing, higher medical costs, more crime, lower standards of education in our schools, overcrowding, new diseases etc., etc, etc. For me, I'll pay more for tomatoes.

We need to wake up. The guest worker program will be a disaster because we won't have the guts to enforce it.
Does anyone in their right mind really think they will voluntarily leave and return?

There are many hardworking Hispanic/American citizens that contribute to our country and many that I consider my true friends. We should encourage and accept those Hispanics who have done it the right and legal way.

It does, however, have everything to do with culture: A third-world culture that does not value education, that accepts children getting pregnant and dropping out of school by 15 and that refuses to assimilate, and an American culture that has become so weak and worried about "politically correct" that we don't have the will to do anything about it.

But the bottom line is cheap labor. The phrase "cheap labor" is a myth, a farce, and a lie. there is no such thing as "cheap labor."

Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and five children. He takes a job for $5.00 or $6.00/hour. At that wage, with six dependents, he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year, if he files an Income Tax Return, he gets an "earned income credit" of up to $3,200 free.
He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent
He qualifies for food stamps
He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care
His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school
He requires bilingual teachers and books
He qualifies for relief from high energy bills
If they are or become, aged, blind or disabled, they qualify for SSI. Once qualified for SSI they can qualify for Medicare. All of this is at taxpayer's expense
He doesn't worry about car insurance, life insurance, or homeowners insurance.
Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins and printed material.
He and his family receive the equivalent of $20.00 to $30.00/hour in benefits.
Working Americans are lucky to have $5.00 or $6.00/hour left after paying their bills and his.
The American taxpayer's also pay for increased crime, graffiti and trash clean-up.

I felt that I needed to send a short letter to the Mayor of Portland to express my outrage with his handling of the raid at the Fresh Del Monte Produce Plant here in Portland, OR. I suggest you do the same. Below is my letter to the Mayor of Portland:

Dear Mayor Potter-

I felt that I needed to respond to your statement regarding the ICE raid at the Del Monte Produce plant.

You said:
"I am angered by this morning's arrest by federal officers of approximately 150 Portland residents who were working at a local produce company.
"I certainly understand why federal officials executed criminal warrants against three individuals who stole and sold Social Security numbers. But to go after local workers who are here to support their families while filling the demands of local businesses for their labor is bad policy. "

So Mr. Potter... are you telling me that we shouldn't go after the people that purchased and used illegal documents but only the ones that sold them? Isn't that like going after drug dealers but not charging the people that purchase the drugs? Or how about charging a person that steals then sells a stolen car but not the person that knowingly purchases the stolen car? Who knows what else the stolen ID's were used for? I imagine that if you investigate a little closer you will see a lot of ID theft taking place. Innocent people that are having their ID used by aliens that have over run our state and city ILLEGALLY. If the police busted a similar ring of ID theft that dealt specifically with US citizens, I'm sure your press release would be a little different.

I sure hope that the companies involved in this whole operation are fined heavily as well. Perhaps you could take some time out of your busy schedule to look at how the illegal immigrant problem is hurting our state. They send the money they "earn" here to their home country and family there. They commit crimes (other than entering the country illegally) and use up our resources in jails. They someone manage to get on welfare and collect money that millions of taxpayers and myself pay to help American Citizens. Our country is in a sad state of affairs and before you go around blaming the Federal Government, maybe you should step up to the plate and set an example for them. It's very easy to criticize when you have no plan yourself. Good luck in your future endevours Sir. The things you do as the Mayor of Portland will follow you during your entire political career... I hope you create a legacy worth being proud of and not one that Oregonians look at with shame.

Agents Detain 165 In Portland Immigration Raid

So ICE agents raided the local Fresh Del Monte Produce Company today and ended up detaining 165 people and arrested 3. Out of nearly 500 employees, only 48 had legal paperwork and were legal to work in the U.S.

CAUSA Oregon, an immigration rights group, called the raids inhumane.

Please explain to me what is inhumane about enforcing federal laws? They came to the U.S. illegally, purchased forged federal documents (a federal crime) and began working and collecting money to send back to Mexico. If the U.S. needs them so badly because "they do the jobs that Americans won't do" then why can't they do it legally? Why can't they go about the process in the legal way set and get the appropriate documentation required by law to work in the U.S.? All citizens have to in order to work, what makes these people above the law? These illegal immigrants are NOT innocent and they need to face the fact that they broke the law. Eventually they were caught and now they should pay the consequences. Who knows what else they were doing with the SSN's and ID's they had? Maybe they were running up debt or setting up services with these peoples ID's? Thats ID theft, wouldn't you want an American citizen who commits ID theft brought to justice too? Don't tell me it's different because it's not. The crime is the same, the only difference is that it was done by someone that shouldn't be here to begin with. Tom Potter, the Mayor of Portland appearantly didn't like the raid either.

Ok... so maybe I haven't had a lot of time to update this regularly like I had hoped. I will say that I will update as OFTEN as I CAN. I hope thats good enough for you. Let me start by saying this: Glenn Beck should never leave his show to anyone to run while he is on tour. It's just not the same. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that Michael Smerconish is a bad guy. He just lacks the emotion that Glenn provides. Anyway, moving along.

If you do one thing this Week, Month, or Year, do this... Write your Representatives in the House and Congress and tell them to stop Amnesty for the millions of ILLEGAL immigrants here in the U.S.A. There is nothing wrong with asking our lawmakers to enforce the laws that we have set. If they are going to start forgiving people for their crimes why don't they start with Pete Rose? That's a whole other topic though.

I leave you this morning with some parting thoughts from my good friend and co-author "endless echo." He sent me a couple texts this morning that I wanted to share with you all.

I heard somewhere that they had footbaths at the airport in some city for the muslims... We get attacked my radical muslims and then bow to them? Anyone that isn't stupid should be able to notice that islam is spreading across the globe. I truly believe that it's a concerted effort by them. Their true goal from a religious standpoint is to spread out and take over the world. They want to convert the world to islam and refusal means death. I think businesses and local government cave to them because they fear the outrage that muslims get over the smallest things. Plus they'll get sued for being "racist." They are the one group of people that I really don't care for at all. People bash, trash, and go out of their way to remove Christianity, but islam gets a pass. We don't riot, we don't kill those who disagree with our beliefs, and for that we are treated poorly. People aren't supposed to fear religion. I guess I'm just frustrated that our country seems to throw out the rules to make sure the muslims don't get upset. Separation of the church and state my ass. Christmas gets tossed for winter solstice yet they want to make sure that muslims can discriminate against based on their religion and it's ok... Next they will ban churches and replace all visible Christian and Catholic ones with mosques. We will replace our laws with sharia law and make sure our women are completed covered. How can they call themselves a religion of peace? Nothing I've seen or read regarding them screams out peace.

Credit Cards for Illegals?

Wow, what a weekend! Sorry that I went a couple days without a new post, there was a lot going on that prevented me from getting to a computer for any decent amount of time... Anyway, I saw this article this morning talking about how Bank of America is now offering a credit card without requiring a social security number. The fact that they are offering the card without a SSN isn't a big deal, but the fact that currently it is only available in 51 of their branches which are all located in Los Angeles County (home to the largest concentration of illegal immigrants in the U.S.) is a big deal. I am ashamed to admit that I currently have an account with Bank of America, but assure you that I will be cancelling the account post haste. I urge anyone who reads this to do the same, and when they ask why make sure to tell them that it's because they are offering a card targeted at a group of illegal citizens (which makes it easier for them to live in our country illegally).

Boston gone crazy?

This whole "bomb" scare from the Cartoon Network marketing idea gone awry has been taken way too far. They were essentially lite brites without the housing. They were located in approx 10 other cities, none of which had the reaction that Boston did. Boston completely over reacted and took this whole thing to the next level. First they threaten legal action against Turner Broadcasting and they arrest the people that put the advertisements up. They also threatened to arrest top executives at Turner. Next, they demanded money from the network to cover the costs they incurred from their own overreaction. Turner agreed and paid a VERY LARGE amount of money (2 million). NOW the GM of Cartoon Network has stepped down from his job because of the "incident." Completely unecessary in my opinion. This guy needs to be paid a serious severence package. I guess we shouldnt be surprised by Boston's reaction... they have John Kerry as their Senator. Look how they react when their sports teams lose. Cry Babies!

Charles Barkley sucks

I wanted to talk briefly about a comment I read the other day that was made by Charles Barkley. In the most recent issue of Maxim Magazine, this rabid liberal was asked about politics in his own little section of Maxim. At the bottom of page 23 "Chuck" is asked "Is there anyone in politics you think personifies everything wrong with government today?" His response? "The Republican Party in general. They're homophobic. As far as race relations, they do a good job of dividing and conquering." Wow! How ignorant is this guy? I know I shouldn't be amazed to see something like this in today's media, but it's still shocking to see someone that can still be considered a role model being so hypocritical and ignorant. He accuses an entire political party of dividing people while he is doing the exact same thing with his statement. It's a shame to see that it's become "PC" to bash conservatives and Republicans. Shame on Maxim and shame on "Chuck."

Oil prices are plummeting. A new direction from there means, what?
Taxes are at 20 year lows. A new direction from there means, what?
Federal tax revenues are at all-time highs. A new direction from there means, what?
The Federal deficit is down almost 50%, just as predicted over last year. A new direction from there means, what?
Home valuations are up 200% over the past 3.5 years. A new direction from there means, what?
Inflation is in check, hovering at 20 year lows. A new direction from there means, what?
Not a single terrorist attack on US soil since 9/11/01. A new direction from there means, what?
Osama bin Laden is living under a rock in a dark cave, having not surfaced in years, if he's alive at all, while 95% of Al Qaeda’s top dogs are either dead or in custody, cooperating with US Intel. A new direction from there means, what?
Several major terrorist attacks already thwarted by US and British Intel, including the recent planned attack involving 10 Jumbo Jets being exploded in mid-air over major US cities in order to celebrate the anniversary of the 9/11/01 attacks. A new direction from there means, what?
Just as President Bush foretold us on a number of occasions, Iraq was to be made "ground zero" for the war on terrorism -- and just as President Bush said they would, terrorist cells from all over the region are arriving from the shadows of their hiding places and flooding into Iraq in order to get their faces blown off by US Marines rather than boarding planes and heading to the United States to wage war on us here. A new direction from there means, what?
Now let me see, do I have this right? I can expect:
The economy to go South, Illegals to go North, Taxes to go Up, Employment to go Down, Terrorism to come In, Tax breaks to go Out, Social Security to go away, Health Care to go the same way gas prices have gone.
But what the heck! I can gain comfort by knowing that Nancy P, Hillary C, John K, Edward K, Howard D, Harry R, and Obama have worked hard to create a comprehensive National Security Plan, Health Care Plan, Immigration Reform Plan, Gay Rights Plan, Same Sex Marriage Plan, Abortion On Demand Plan, Tolerance of Everyone and Everything Plan, How to Return all Troops to the U.S. in The Next Six Months Plan, A Get Tough Plan, adapted from the French Plan by the same name and a How Everyone Can Become as Wealthy as We Are Plan. I forgot the No More Katrina Storm Plan.
Now I know why I feel good after the elections. I am going to be able to sleep so much better at nights knowing these dedicated politicians are thinking of me and my welfare.

Iran: What's it good for?

Let's talk about hypocrisy for a moment... Iran continues to threaten the U.S. with things like "if you guys even think about looking at us wrong we will SO get you back." These guys are sending operatives into Iraq to assist in attacking and killing U.S. soldiers, which as far as I'm concerned is an act of war. They are continuing with their uranium enrichment program despite being told to "hold on" by the international community and the spineless cowards at the UN. They continue to arm and fund Hezbollah in Lebanon so that they can effectively attack Israel and cause further unrest in the area. Yet they tell us to back off because if we give them any reason to think we might protect ourselves from them they will attack us? I say bring it. It's time to turn that whole middle east area into a giant glass parking lot. They seem to have a little man syndrome, like a short bully in elementary school that tried to give you a wedgie but couldn't reach high enough to cause any real damage. Iran: GO AWAY!

Wow!! I sure am glad that the democrats in "power" are holding true to what they promised and making sweeping changes for our country. (sarc) It looks like they are still pushing hard for a non-binding resolution to send a "message" to the president that they don't want him to send more troops to Iraq. WHY THE HELL would you create a NON-binding resolution? "We just wanted to make sure that you guys knew that we don't like the idea." Well, thanks for wasting American tax-payer money on absolutely NOTHING! Dear United States Citizens: Be prepared for 2 years of debates, committees, investigations, and allegations. This democrat controlled House will accomplish absolutely nothing. They have the control they wanted and have absolutely no idea what to do with it. The democrats want us to get out of Iraq rapidly, yet the NIE report (the one they tout as the answer all report on Iraq) says "American and international forces play a key role in the country, and the Iraqi army probably wouldn't survive a rapid U.S. withdrawal." Let's hope the president follows through with his plan and sends more troops. The thing that the dems don't understand is that the escalation isn't just to help Iraq, but its also to send a message to Iran to be good and play nice with the world. I hope they listen.

Immigration

What better way to start the blog off then with some thoughts on immigration. Uh oh!!! Alert the ACLU, someone is about to offer an opinion the issue!!!! So let’s open this with one statement: There is a difference between being against illegal immigration and being against immigration. Unfortunately the line between the 2 has been blurred by libtards and others who think its ok for a group of people to illegally enter a country with total disregard for their sovereignty. These folks enter the USA and break a law right off the bat. That is NOT ok as far as I’m concerned, and that’s what I am against. I am for those that do it appropriately. If they enter legally and go about becoming a legal citizen through the legal means set.
Lets talk about the very few arguments that my opponents have on the issue:
1) "People against illegal immigration are racist." WRONG! This has very VERY little to do with race. Being against illegal immigration is about being against individuals of any nationality or race who immigrate to a country through illegal means. They know that what they are doing is against the law, just look at how they enter the country.
2) "Illegal immigrants do the jobs that Americans won't do" WRONG again! When I was in high school I worked at a fast food restaurant after school and on the weekends. Also when I was younger I was out picking berries and earning spending money. The issue is that the illegals have come to the USA and begun to do these jobs for lower pay. They essentially undercut everyone and prevent anyone of legal stature from getting an opportunity to even do the job. Teenagers/High Schoolers these days aren't even able to work in fast food or other low income jobs because the illegals essentially "cornered" the market. If Bush passes his amnesty plan (lord help us) you will see all of these now legal citizens demand higher pay and better benefits. So much for "cheap corn" and "jobs Americans won't do."
3) "All white Americans of European decent are illegal immigrants too" Boy, this one probably took them a while to think of. Unfortunately it has absolutely ZERO merit. IF there were immigration laws during the time, I'm sure they would have been followed. Unfortunately there were no laws, so none were broken. Therefore they are NOT illegal. Now, there was also a period of time where a very large number of white Europeans entered the USA and came through a place called Ellis Island. There were immigration laws at that time and those laws were followed... Therefore, they are NOT illegal.
The companies that hire illegal immigrants need to be held accountable for their activity. If we cut off the reason for them to come here there should be no reason for them to continue to come here illegally. Just a thought.
One parting comment: If someone does immigrate here legally, please assimilate.
